There are different types of bullying. Be sure that your child is aware.  Most kids think that bullying is just picking on someone.

There is physical, verbal, cyber, and emotional bullying.

Physical - punching, hitting, socking, spitting...

Verbal - put down, hurtful comments, name calling, make threats...

Cyber - using the internet or social media to say mean things...

Emotional - excluding, spreading rumors or mean gossip, ruining someone's reputation...

BOO!-Hoooo ~ SUGARCHECKED Warns of Six Halloween Treats with "Scary" Ingredients

The "scary" facts about popular Halloween candies we consume in high amounts this time of year. Candy sales will hit upwards of $2.6 billion this time of year with candy corn as one of the top four most popular choices. With this startling stat, SugarChecked certified clinical nutritionist Tory Tedrow warns there are several Halloween treats we should avoid that can drastically impact the body's blood sugar and can speed up the process of tooth decay.

Below are six examples of the worst treats (candy corn included) this Halloween season, courtesy of SugarChecked.

                                                                                                            BOO!-Hoooo
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups - Made with non organic-GMO peanuts, refined sugar and preservatives (a health bomb in a cup). With 13 grams of fat and 21 grams of sugar in just one package (two cups), Reese’s Pieces are a must-avoid candy especially if your child is at risk of being overweight or developing early onset diabetes.
  • Pumpkin Oreo Cookies - This treat is highly processed as it contains enriched wheat flour, artificial colors/flavors, synthetic vitamins, high fructose corn syrup and loads of sugar (12 grams for two cookies). Nowhere in the ingredient list does it list “pumpkin.” A combination of these ingredients can lead to an unbalanced blood sugar and indigestion as our bodies have difficulty absorbing synthetic vitamins.
  • Starburst - These processed fruit chews are full of artificial flavors, colors, trans fats, sugar and are the worst candy for promoting tooth cavities and decay as each packet of 10 contains 22 grams of sugar. These fruit chews can increase acidity in the mouth as they are sour and sweet and can break down tooth enamel.
  • Candy Corn - This candy mainly consists of sugar in the form of high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors/flavors which are the worst things for kids with ADD, asthma and allergies. High fructose corn syrup is the most refined sugar available, it's genetically modified, will spike blood sugar levels, and if eaten in excess will lead to weight gain.
  • Skittles - These little pieces of the rainbow are made with high fructose corn syrup, refined sugar, hydrogenated palm oil, and artificial colors and flavors which research shows are linked to hyperactivity, cancer and food allergies.
  • Tootsie Rolls/Pops - These are the worst type of candy for teeth as they are waxy and stick to teeth. This candy is made of hydrogenated soybean oil, artificial flavors/colors and 6 pieces contain 20 grams of sugar.

Tips, Tricks & Tools of the Trade by Roz Roberts

I recently went on a much-needed shopping spree. Fall is here and I needed some clothing to get through the cooler season.
I ended up buying several blouses to last me for this period. What I noticed were some of the blouses were living on the floor in my closet. After several hanging attempts, I realized that new a new approach was needed. My hanger technique was improper.

Yes, the kind of hanger is key to a successful wardrobe. They’re often overlooked as an important staple in one’s wardrobe.
The type of fabric and garment construction works well for different styles of hangers. Below are a few that I have in my closet right now.

The velvet hanger:
These hangers are very good for shirts, tank top and blouses. They hold slippery texture materials very well such as silk, chiffon and soft polyester blends. They are also thin in width, which is great if you have a lot of shirts to fit in your closet.

The padded hangers:
This type of hanger is also good for the article of clothing mention earlier. They also hold lingerie and little bitty spaghetti straps in place. Perfect for the little dainty garment.

The pants hangers:
As I accumulated pants into my wardrobe I couldn’t figure out one from another, until I discovered the pants hangers. These are a great addition to your wardrobe. They hold the pants by the waistband; therefore it gives you the ability to see what you have on hand.

The wooden hangers:
They work well with pantsuits and chunky knitted sweaters. The hidden benefit of this hanger is their longevity factor. They’re durable and can last for a long time. It’s worth the investment.

Other Mentions...
There are the plastic and of course wired hangers!!! (In my Joan Crawford voice). While they are plentiful and cheaper than their counterparts, they also have a shorter span of survival. Once the wired hanger bends in the wrong direction, it’s nearly impossible to rebalance the bent curve. The plastic hanger is no different as they are easy to break and simply disposable afterwards. Try for yourself and see if it makes a difference of organizing your closet an effortless task! -RR

Halloween Costumes, Movies, and More…

Parents, don’t you just love this time of year? It’s time for us to decide which Halloween costume would be best for our children.  Don’t wait too long to get a costume or they will all be completely gone and you will most likely have to get in touch with your creative side to put together something or take whatever the store has left.  Ah, the leftovers :-).  I think most of us have been in this place at least once since we have been parents.  I’m having flashbacks just thinking about driving from store to store only to find that each store’s costume aisle looked like a tornado went through the aisle.  I’m sure you’ve come in contact with the store employee that told you they would have more costumes coming in but they were not sure when or how many.  Lol! The next step is usually when we start to say, “Oh well” and search the store for anything and everything that could look like a Halloween costume so that our kids won’t feel left out.

This year the super hero costumes are most popular.  This year most kids want to be super heroes.  Super hero costumes are selling out in child and adult sizes.  Pikachu is another costume that seems to be in demand after the whole Pokémon craze this summer.  The presidential candidates are also top sellers. I’m sure we can still look forward to seeing our Frozen and many other Disney Princesses, Ninja Turtles, and many other costumes that we have seen for the past several years.
Next issue…. What are we going to do for Halloween?

Do you have any interesting plans for Halloween? What are your plans for Halloween?

Question?? What are you going to be for Halloween? What is your child going to be for Halloween? My daughter is going to be a Superhero.
