Felicia Tatum: This is my first book and it is titled “Daddy will you remember me?” I am super excited for the launch of my first book. The anticipated book release will be in November 2014. I have a passion for writing so I am just so elated to share my story with the world. I hope to be able to touch others that are experiencing or have experienced living with a family member that has Alzheimer’s. The book is a glimpse into my family’s life and day to day struggles dealing with a family member with Alzheimer’s. I hope to enlighten those that have not experienced this horrible disease as well.
L.A. Black Parent: Tell us something about yourself.
Felicia Tatum: I am a humble person I like the simple things in life. The time I spend with my family and friends is priceless. I am a mom of two beautiful girls that I absolutely adore, they are everything to me. I am also married to a great guy for almost seven years.
L.A. Black Parent: What inspired you to write this book?
Felicia Tatum: I would have to say two things inspired me to write this book. The first was so many individuals have no idea about what exactly Alzheimer’s is or the effect it has on a person. When I use to share stories about my dad almost everyone that I talk to would say I wasn’t aware Alzheimer’s was that bad. I have a passion for educating others so I decided I would share my family story. I know my dad would be so happy to know that his story will touch so many. The second thing that inspired me was dream that I had which was so vivid that I was inspired to write. I don’t want to go into too much detail about my dream, but in the book I do give detail about the dream.
L.A. Black Parent: How did you choose the title?
Felicia Tatum: I remember I was at work conversing with my close friend CEO of REGS books, Regina Mixon and I was explaining that I was having a hard time coming up with a title. She simply said just pray about it and it will come to you. So that night I was in bed mediating a bit and it just popped in my head just like that. I am a firm believer God whispers to you when your mind is clear and your surroundings are quiet. I would say I get some of my best ideas in the middle of the night.
L.A. Black Parent: What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Felicia Tatum: When I am not writing I am spending time with my girls Janie and Skylar. When I am not with the girls I am working at the Social Security Administration. I enjoy working because I can touch so many lives and make a difference in so many individual’s lives. I also enjoy volunteering in the community and for God’s storehouse ministries.
L.A. Black Parent: Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Felicia Tatum: This is my first book so I am looking forward to hearing from my readers in the near future.
L.A. Black Parent: Tell us your latest news?
Felicia Tatum: I have several events coming up in the near future. I am spearheading a fundraiser for needy families this year for Christmas and a toy drive. I will be writing two fiction novels and a children’s book in the near future.
