The Rutledge Sisters Pay Homage to "Melanated Queens" with Their Final Photo Recreation Collection Plus Honor the History Making Film "Black Panther" with a Special Newscast
The 2018 collection entitled “Melanated Queens Around the World” features photo recreations of queens from almost every corner of the globe including some associated with the now historic film Black Panther. In an effort to honor the record breaking film, the Rutledge sisters along with mom, dad and family friends produced a newscast featuring the sisters as anchor women “Sharon Reed” and “Karen Graham” interviewing Wakanda’s King T'Challa (voiced by dad, Jason Rutledge), an in-depth profile of the "Women of Wakanda", a fashion segment showcasing the "fashions of Wakanda" brought to life by legendary costume designer, Ruth E. Carter and some of their previous work featuring stars of the film such as Lupita Nyong’o and Angela Bassett. The 2018 photo recreations of “Melanated Queens Around the World” got mom, Shadeeka Rutledge involved too.
The Rutledge Sisters say, "Although we've had enormous success with our projects we feel it’s time to do new things. We appreciate all the support we have received from around the world and hope that our last effort with the “Melanated Queens” project will do even more for educating people on how women and women of color particularly have used their power to help shape this colorful world we live in.”
